Bible in the museum collection

26 May 2021 year in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnowski opened the exhibition "Bible in the collection of the museum" created for a memorable date - the 440th anniversary of the Ostroh Bible.

The Ostroh Bible is a unique edition of the first in the history of the complete collection of all books of the Holy Scriptures in the Church Slavonic language., which was carried out in Ostroh in 1581 year with the support of Prince Vasily-Constantine of Ostroh. Writers were involved in the preparation and publication of the Bible, translators and editors, who did a great job, performing a comparative analysis, translation and editing of various sacred texts in different languages.

Museum researcher Myroslav Mai-Boroda noted, that the publication of the Ostroh Bible played a major role in education. The Bible was of great importance for the development of not only Ukrainian culture, but also the cultures of other peoples, who used the Church Slavonic language. Soon after its publication, it became widely known far beyond Ukraine.

The exhibition also presents printed and manuscript books of the Holy Scriptures of the XVI-XIX centuries. different languages ​​and different geography of their origin.

Also on the opening day of the exhibition, senior researcher Igor Sity presented the first Bible printed in Kyiv in 1758 year and the Holy Scriptures 1788 year. Both copies were published in the printing house of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.

The exhibition "The Bible in the Museum's Collection" will run for a month.
