The first astronaut of independent Ukraine

9 February 2021 in Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnowski held a museum meeting, dedicated to the memory of Leonid Kadenyuk, The first astronaut of independent Ukraine, Героя України.

Leonid Kadenyuk was born 28 January 1951 in the village of Klishkivtsi, Khotyn district, Chernivtsi region. On 1967 by 1971 years studied at the Chernihiv Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots. До 1976 served as a pilot-instructor of the training aviation regiment ChVVAUL. Taught flying 15 cadets. 1976 year selected to the detachment of astronauts. Prepared for flights on the Buran and Soyuz-TM spacecraft.

1995 joined the group of astronauts of the National Space Agency of Ukraine. On 19 November on 5 December 1997 made a space flight as part of an international crew on board the American reusable transport ship "Columbia". He died suddenly 31 January 2018 year in Kiev.

Veterans of ChVVAUL - Vladimir Kuzmenkov shared the memories about Leonid Kadenyuk before participants of a meeting, Chairman of the Union of Veterans ChVVAUL and Alexander Rus, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Veterans of Public Relations.

The presentation of the exhibition - "The First Cosmonaut of Independent Ukraine" took place during the meeting. Materials on preparation for space flight are presented at the exhibition; experiments, conducted by a Ukrainian cosmonaut on the ship "Columbia"; patch on the spacesuit, which is a sign-symbol of the space flight of the mission "STS-87", transferred to the museum by Leonid Kadenyuk; autographed photo of Leonid Kadeniuk, his book "Space Mission", donated during the last visit to the museum 14 December 2017 year, as well as the autographs of the world's first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and the world's fifth and third Soviet cosmonaut Andrian Nikolaev. As Leonid Kadenyuk told, his dream of becoming an astronaut originated 12 April 1961 year, when man first flew into space.

The meeting was attended by cadets of the Academy of the Penitentiary Service of Ukraine and museum staff.
