Romanian versed manuscript Psalter in the museum collection

4 was held in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky, без перебільшення, a unique event – the presentation of a handwritten versed Psalter. This note is written in Cyrillic, in the Romanian language at the beginning of the 18th century.

As research has convincingly proved, conducted by a museum researcher, candidate of theology Myroslav Mai-Boroda, The author of the Psalter is Teodor Korbe, an outstanding Romanian diplomat and translator, the author of the first Latin-Romanian dictionary, who lived in Kyiv for some time and had property in Chernihiv Oblast.

His handwritten verse Psalter, written in simple vernacular, at one time was issued in Romania, thanks to that, that the original is preserved there. But the specimen, which is kept in the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky is unique, since this is a draft with author's corrections. In addition, the Romanian copy is not complete, unlike the Chernihiv one, it lacks several psalms.

The manuscript came to the museum from Korbe's descendants, who were born from many influential families of hetmans of Ukraine. The versed Psalter was transferred to the collection of Ukrainian antiquities of Vasyl Tarnovsky, together with the personal belongings of the daughter of the Hetman of Ukraine, Danylo Apostol, and many other relics of the Cossack eldership..

A senior researcher of the museum told about the peculiarity of the book, кандидат історичних наук Ігор Ситий, who, compiling the register of manuscript books of the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after V.V. Tarnovsky (див. Treasury of Ukrainian culture. Issue 4) introduced information about the Psalter into scientific circulation.

The participants of the presentation had the opportunity to listen to how the poetic Psalter sounds in the Romanian language. Archpriest Valentin Pavlenko read it.

This is not the first and far from the last confirmation of the uniqueness of the collection of the Chernihiv Historical Museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky.
