The Principality of Chernihiv and the Golden Horde

17 November 2022 in Chernihiv Historical Museum named after VV. Tarnovsky, a museum meeting was held - an open lecture "Chernihiv Principality and the Golden Horde", which was read by the associate professor of the Department of World History and Archeology of the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the National Pedagogical University named after M.P.. Drahomanova, candidate of historical sciences, Roman Babenko. Speaker, based on written sources and archaeological data, various components of the Mongol invasion of Chernihiv-Sivershchyna and the further process of contact of Russian princes with the Golden Horde were considered.

Chernihiv Historical Museum of VV. Tarnovsky specially for the meeting prepared an exhibition of objects of nomadic origin and belongings, related to the capture of Chernigov by the Mongols in October 1239 year, as well as Golden Horde coins. The exhibits were presented and characterized by Lyudmila Sita, senior researcher of the museum.

At the end of the meeting, the archeologist and local historian is a senior researcher of the National university «Chernihivskyi collegium" named after T.G. Yuri Shevchenko Fed, based on the materials of archaeological research, told about that, what were Chernihiv, its surroundings and Chernihiv lands in the first half of the 13th century. He paid special attention to the circumstances of the assault on Chernigov.
